As a Dating Expert, I have been approached by journalists internationally about tips to give to both singles and married/committed couples for how to survive and thrive this Valentine’s Day in a down economy.
One of my dear followers who is one of the most beautiful married ladies I know tells her husband NOT to give her roses on Valentine’s Day because of the astronomical premium.
And that premium is one thing in a solid and uptick economy.
What about now?
When you or your spouse or Significant Other is either facing or just experienced being laid off? What about when your jobs or careers are still secure, but who feels like spending extravagantly isn’t in good taste this year like one did not eat in public during the Great Depression because you didn’t know when the last meal was had by those OTHER people on the street seeing you? (Yes, my parents who were born into that era taught me that one, to be compassionate for others.)
Well, GOOD NEWS!

GO NOW! Go now to the various internet flower websites and order flowers now. In the future, think to plan significantly ahead of time and do this in December or January.
What is so cool is you will STILL get great prices by doing this.
You will NOT be spending those premium prices to arrange for roses your lady beloved on Valentine’s Day.
So Lisa honey, your dear husband can STILL give you roses like he wants to do with his lady fair! LET him express his sweet romantic tender masculine heart to you and give you roses. Just let him do it online!

2019 Update: this may no longer be possible within just a few days from Valentine’s Day now like it was when I originally wrote this blog post 10 years ago in 2009. By now, in this day and age, you really need to have done this weeks in advance. I also prefer recommending to men that they develop a relationship with a local florist who can tell them by when they will need to place their orders to get something good and not have to pick from a small shriveled bouquet at exorbitant elevated prices. You’ll be assured of actually being able to get your roses or her favorite flowers in a bouquet and not have placed your online order ages in advance only to find they can’t deliver on your order at the last minute. I saw an ad at Amazon where you could purchase an attractive bouquet of roses for $19.99 with a 2 hour delivery window from Whole Food Company, only to click through and find no such option available 3 days prior to Valentine’s Day. Just, even for you gentlemen who are Myers-Briggs type Ps in the Time perspective, as much as you’re able to, plan and shop and order way in advance. More than 1 month in advance is not too soon to be thinking about doing that these days.

( I don’t know how I found out that) but the case is that I could hear my grandmother’s voice telling something about the depression and those people that couldn’t afford a meal… But it was very nice to receive that present. Very romantic!
