Have you been effected by the downturn in the economy? Is your Valentine’s Day Budget kinda low this year? Um, frankly, is your Valentine’s Day celebration budget zero this year? Have you been recently been laid off? Are you unemployed? Have you been unemployed for more than a year now? Are you not only feeling discouraged financially, but feeling despondent romantically with your partner?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, today’s blog post is for you. Not only is every single romantic celebration idea I will present to you today totally 100% Free, they are also guaranteed to be fun, life-affirming, and invigorating.
As you read the free romantic celebration ideas I’m giving you today (see, your first free Valentine’s Day gift already this year!) if the precise idea does jive with what you find fun, adventurous, and exciting, then use it as a spring board catalyst to stimulate your own creativity and ideas for an activity which you find engaging and fun.
If music be the food of love, play on
Fill your Valentine’s Day day with beautiful flowing romantic music. Fill your home’s airwaves with romantic ballads. Fill your home’s ambiance with lyrical classical violin music.
Yes, this can be 100% free.
Radio Station Dancing
First, there is your local classical music station. Many of them will be playing marvelously romantic lyrical melodies all day long. Turn on your radio and tune your dial to your classical music station. Perhaps your romantic music preference has more of a Latin beat. Then tune your dial to your local Salsa beat station and turn up the volume until you are swaying in the kitchen.
As the music is playing, take your love in your arms, and dance together. Who cares if you two haven’t taken any ballroom dance classes together? You can still manage some dancing.
By the way, I say, your love, because all of these free romantic celebration tips are perfectly good for opposite sex couples as well as same sex LGBT couples. The focus is LOVE and ROMANCE, not gender or preferences. One of you will be the Leader and the other the Follower in your dancing. That’s all.
Audio CDs from Your Public Library
Your tax dollars already paid for them, now go and enjoy them! Go visit your public library. In case you do not have a library card, check with your local library and verify what proof of identity and proof of residence you will need to bring with you to acquire a card. Get or bring your library card with you, and then go have fun browsing through the audio cd section of your library.
Perhaps your romantic heart swells to the strains of the arias of love and betrayal in “Madame Butterfly?” Or maybe your love’s passionate heart smolders to the latin beat strains of “Forever Tango?” Perhaps your romantic tenderness triggers to the opening strains of anything by Chopin? At your public library, you will likely find these or related works… all for free. Check the CDs out and play them at your home in a special way on Valentine’s Day.
Awaken to Chopin
Awaken your love in the morning to Chopin, a gentle music for shifting from somnolent dream state to fully awake consciousness.
Words of Love…
If you have a poetic bent to your talents, then by all means, write your love a poem expressing your love and tender thoughts.
However, if you feel tongue tied with iambic pentameter, then borrow from the greats. While you are at your great free adventure trip to the Public Library, go over to the poetry section and check out a few volumes of books.
Whose Poetry Should You Use?
Certainly you can’t go wrong with Shakespeare and his wonderful love Sonnets. However, perhaps your heart feels better expressed by the whimsical lyricism of Walt Whitman or the voice of Emily Dickinson, Sappho, the Song of Songs, or William Blake? Embrace that and check out the book.
Free Ideas with Poetry
1. You can read the poems to your love
2. You can transcribe the poems in your own hand as a gift to your love.
Use Thine Own Dear Hand
Get a nice piece of paper or even simply lined notebook paper, whatever you already have around the house. Truly the idea here is that all of your romantic gestures have no monetary cost. Use a nice pen, one with rolling flowing ink. Transcribe with your own dear hand the precious word of love and sentiment.
Make It Into a Beautiful Gift
Roll the paper into a scroll and tie it with a ribbon. Do you have a string of yarn? Perhaps some Christmas ribbon? Anything beautiful like that which you already have. Use that to make your poetry scroll into a wonderfully romantic gift for your love.
This idea of free frugal romantic ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day is so important, I will continue it for the next few days.
Happy Dating and Relationships,

Music connects us all, I’m sure of it. I think some Al Green or Barry White may be used.
Great ideas as always!

February 19, 2010 at 3:19 PMMusic – what a great idea! When my husband and I were dating, there was a man in the subway station who played the guitar and sang. I told him one night that I liked the song “What a Wonderful World” and it reminded me of my boyfriend and I put a dollar in his can. After that, he would sing and play it every night when he saw me coming.

February 24, 2010 at 7:13 AMHang on – wouldn’t the cheapest way to pass Valentine’s day to break up on the 13th and then get back together on the 15th? 😉
Seriously, very sensible tips that I might have used if I’d seen them in time!

December 17, 2010 at 5:34 AMHi April. I like the signs of the times that you’re not just recommending $300 dates. Depression Era dating advice just might be good. What do you think? Maybe I did something wrong?
