Salsa Dancing Resources for Singles in San Francisco (and OC)

So yes, one of the tips you will hear me recommend to singles to casually meet other singles and hey wow, have an incredibly good time while doing so is to go dancing.

I love dancing so much that yes, I went to dance clubs in New York in order to get to dance to the cool music and back in college at Smith, I was often “The Social Chair” so I could organize there being dances!

I’m not saying this in an original dating and singles tip, but is one which I know is totally effective.  Effective for getting singles together, in some cases, couples getting married.

Now the thing is, I really do love dancing.  I have ventured in Argentine Tango and did West Coast Swing for awhile. Another great dance style that lots of singles really enjoy is Salsa dancing.  It is a very romantic dance style.  If you’re a single in San Francisco or the area, then one of the best local dancing resources for Salsa lovers or those who are interested in learning how to dance salsa is Salsa Crazy.  Just know it is a little annoying with the pop up window sign up thing.

Note 2019: Singles here in Southern California’s Orange County have option for Salsa right here in The OC specifically geared for singles in Irvine in central county: Orange County Salsa

To start with, what you want to identify is where there are dance classes.  Some will be at some very casual social venues like a social club or in the gymnasium at a local middle school or high school.  Some will be at the dance clubs themselves.

I just gotta tell you that the ones which are at the clubs are always a little bit more pressured, because you’ll have the option to hang and stay at the dance club after the dance class.  You will want to go to those venues for sure eventually.  However, I’m just going to softly suggest to you that you start learning to dance at a more really casual and social location until you become both more skilled and more confident in your dancing.

Salsa Crazy is a SF area resource.  Start to poke around for dance resources near where you live.  Once you start to go to some of the dance events, classes, and clubs for any given style of dancing, you will invariably start to make some dance friends, chat them up about the good teachers, great classes, and most fun venues.  And you’ll find that most of the classes will allow a resource table where you’ll find some flyers about other dance classes, some dance skills workshops, as well as special dance events and weekends.

  2. Oh April, I went to dancing lessons back in the 70’s . Discovered I had the unusual medical condition of two left feet . That was that . — John

  3. Dance classes and specially salsa classes are a fun way to meet new people and enjoy life!
Pity that some people don’t like to dance…
Another great thing about dancing is that you can learn so much from your dance partner een though you don’t know him or her!

  4. I love dance! I love to watch dance and I love to dance. This has to be on every singles to do list. Go dancing, it makes people feel good! This has to be one of my favorite things to do. Do men know that ballroom dancing is one of the best kept secrets to meeting women? Most woment love to dance with guys who can dance well. My husband and I used to take ballroom dance lessons and every Friday night the studio would have dance parties. The guys were always outnumbered by about 7 to 1. The guys loved it, but I wasn’t so crazy about sharing my husband so that everyone got a chance to dance! hahahha
