OC Singles Events: Huntington Beach Summer Concert Features Night Blooming Jazzmen

OC Singles Events: Huntington Beach Summer Concert Features Night Blooming Jazzmen Sunday August 21 at 5 pm

On August 21, 2011 at 5:00 the OC’s own Night Blooming Jazzmen, aka NBJ, and the the Nightbloomers will be featured in the Huntington Beach aka Surf City Summer Concert Series behind the Talbert Public Library.

Where did you first hear Jazz played and in particular, New Orleans Style Jazz?

I grew up in Princeton, NJ, where McCarter Theatre‘s Music Series annually included memorable performances by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Alexander Hall.  They always closed with “When the Saints Coming Marching In” and as a young (and sometimes cute) girl, I always got to join in the snake trail of people who joined the New Orleans style Conga line they formed circling around the hall.

The Night Bloomers are of such a wonderful tradition and similar ilk.  We are fortunate to have them here preserving the New Orleans style of Jazz playing , featuring and sharing it with a new generation and so many miles from New Orleans itself.

For Orange County and SoCal singles who are looking for both fun events to attend for Fun Date Ideas as well as casual ways to meet and mingle with others, some of whom are single, the Huntington Beach Summer Concert series offers a wonderful venue.  New Orleans style jazz features the kind of music where you stand up, might warble along with the songs you know, and clap your hand not only in enthusiastic applause for the players but also in time and tempo with the music they’re playing.  The energy and enthusiasm of the music and the audience means you’ll have opportunities just to turn casually to your neighbors and gush and utter a few compliments to the musicians, enthuse about the tune or the song, and just comfortably and casually interact with the people surrounding you who are enjoying the music too.

Is this your first time hearing New Orleans Style Jazz?

Oh really?  Where else have you heard it before?  My parents played it all the time, too!

Oh really?  What do you think of it?  How are you liking it so far?

We played Preservation Hall Jazz Band music at our wedding reception on the paddle-wheel “showboat” and I’m proud to say that music choice made it very easy for the single people to meet up!! Go for it!!
