Dating Coaching Advice for Women Over 40 and 50: Make New Friends

Dating Coach Recommends Single Women in Forties and Fifties Seek Out New Girlfriends

Why single women over forty and after fifty should make new girlfriends at midlife

You don’t really realize right away in your forties or fifties how much you need to start making a concerted effort to make new friends and expand your social circle as a single woman after 40 and over 50+ years old.  Maybe you’ve been busy with your career and your a single never married.  Or maybe your divorce recently finalized.  Or perhaps your divorce decree came through 10 years ago, but you’ve been dedicating your time, energies and efforts to raising your kids.  Now maybe they’ve started dating, watching them go to Prom, and realizing they are leaving the roost this Fall heading off to college for the first time.  Alternatively, you might be widowed like I was at a young age.

Who will you hang out with socially?

Whatever your marital status and lifestyle has been up until now, if you’ve decided it’s time to venture back out into the dating pool and investigate the possibilities of having a love life in your forties or fifties, then you might already have noticed one of the key differences.  Have you started to look around you?

Remember what it was like back in your twenties and early thirties or so when you always had that fun handful of girlfriends and even a few guy friends (a key demarcation character attribute of the Baby Boomer generation is they started making it OK and normal to have opposite sex friendsOpposite sex relationships could be platonic friendships, not exclusively romantic like for our parents and grandparents when they were young.)?  When you wanted to head out after work on Friday night, there were just always at least a few fun single friends you could go hangout with, sip your drink of choice, and use your feminine charm to flirt lightly with the men around you.

Now it seems like all your girlfriends are married and busy moms with their own children.  Or even if your midlife girlfriends are in a couple, they are dedicating most of their time to their romantic partner in crime.

Sure, they have time to socialize with you about once a month.  But whatever happened to spontaneously trying out that sophisticated new wine bar down town to sample some Merlot, Pinot Noir, and a Cab with the flight of red wines?  You’ll find you’re hard pressed to wrangle up even one or two takers to join you. Your social life is fizzling and you want to activate the sizzle, instead.

Where can you make new girlfriends now?  And how can you do this now in your forties and fifties?  It’s not the same as it was in college and grad school.  It can take some time to develop a new circle of female chums. Check back shortly and I’ll share some options and ideas with you.

Until then.
