Integrity in Dating: Internet Dating Profiles, All the Men Are Wealthy
Dating with Integrity: Internet Personal Ad Profiles, All the Guys Are Rich
If you are a single woman reading the internet matchmaking profiles or a single guy reading the online dating profiles of the competition, then you know all the single guys dating profiles are rich and wealthy men, right?
Apparently all the single men with internet dating profiles are wealthy salary earners. Well, perhaps not all the single guys are rich men…
Online Dating Profiles Over Inflating Singles’ Salaries:
However, certainly there is an over-inflation of how much money men earn who are at the online dating sites. According to the OkCupid study, a number of both single men and single women exaggerate their income in their online dating profiles.
Surprise, many single men want to date single women and girls who are beautiful. Or at least that’s what they start searching on. And women start with searching on men often in the “Earning over $100,00” salary category.
Modern Single Women Still Seeking Men Who Are Good Financial Providers:
Modern women themselves often are earning a good salary. However, many modern women still want the man to assume a “good provider role” and search on a filter out those men who are earning too far below their salary requirements.
In the Contemporary Internet Dating World All the Women Are Beautiful and All the Men Are Rich:
Sometimes when I am reading Online Dating Profiles of single men and women, I am reminded of Garrison Keller‘s fun quote introduction to “Lake Wobegon Days,”
“Welcome to Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average.” – Garrison Keller
It’s like in the land of internet dating profiles, all the women are beautiful (please read, hot, gorgeous, and beautiful , no pressure there) and all the men are tall and wealthy. Right? Or why else are you here seeking love online at the internet matchmaking dating sites?
A few years ago, there was a joke humorous email that was circulating throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, which actually includes Singles in SF, Marin County (aka North County), Contra Costa County, the East Bay, the Peninsula, and the San Jose area. It was about when you earn $100,000. We used to joke that $100,000 for a salary was akin to earning minimum wage in the San Francisco Bay Area. You couldn’t actually purchase a house with that kind of a salary. If you earned near $100,000, you might be able to buy a condo in the area. And you’d still need to take BART or CALTRain, or AC Transit to get to work. So how rich is rich, and how rich is rich enough for what you’re looking for?

October 29, 2011 at 11:12 AMAnd in certain parts of the world….money goes a LOT further….for example, a small town in China where my sister live and works. Or even here in Costa Rica. And I hear that money goes even further in Panama or Ecuador. So in many cases earnings is kind of a silly filter for online dating singles.
On the other hand, many women can give you examples of men they met on line who had NO job and were looking for a woman to support them…or in my case, a man who had a good job ($150,000 a year)but quit it when he thought he had me “hooked”. Which left me going “huh?’….we had never even discussed his quitting his job…
On line dating can be a mine field of integrity…people need people like you to help them find real and lasting love, April!

October 29, 2011 at 1:22 PMWell, how many hits would you assume a profile to get if it read, “nice 40-something guy, average height and average looking. slight hump on left shoulder and receding hairline. Only serious inquiries, please.”?
Of course this guy also happens to be looking for a Megan Fox or Katy Perry.

October 29, 2011 at 7:31 PMApril, I think that it is funny that women start by looking for men that make over 100k a year, what is it that men search for first?

October 30, 2011 at 3:54 PMHi April,
It is amazing all the things we embellish and it is possibly even more amazing that they work. Great point about income versus expenses. Maybe dating services should require CPA audited financial reports be posted with the profile.

October 31, 2011 at 2:32 PMAh, the Bay Area… where a grocery bagger starts out at $15 an hour. Amazing place. I think I was the exception to the rule as I had a penthouse in Pac Heights, but made a little less than 100k. Go figure…
