Happy Labor Day 2010 to all the folks who read my blog here in the United States. I know I have readers (bless you, thank you) from other parts of the world, some US Expats, and others who have entirely different Holiday schedules than we do. Today The States celebrate Labor Day. Which means, most people have the day off from work. If you’re single and you didn’t actually go away anywhere for the holiday weekend, you still have today to play with. Labor Day is sort of traditionally The End of Summer, so there are a lot of Summer oriented festivities today and this past weekend. Leverage those and aim to go somewhere for a Day Trip somewhere today. Be sure to pack and use your high SPF suncreen wherever you are headed!
Beaches: Beaches are he last bastion of Summer Vacations. The beaches by our oceans, our gulfs, and by the lakes and ponds are all drawing lots of crowds over Labor Day Weekend. Head on over for at least half the day. Certainly do walk on the sand, it is so enjoyable. However, to make it easy for strangers to engage in conversation with you casually and comfortably, head on up to paved areas for walking, the board walks, and where the snack shacks and bathrooms are. Use the public water fountain. Mill about this area as well as on the benches there.
Local Fairs: There are regional fairs, special theme fairs, county fairs, and state fairs at this time of year. Head on out and have fun. Many of these fairs feature exhibits and vendors and crafts people. Stroll about and engage them in conversation. “How long have you been making these beautiful beads? They’re so interesting. What got you started in making your own beads?” This is both to engage with them, and to make it easy for others who stroll up to the booth as well to join into the conversation. Strangers will see you walking about leisurely and being engaging, vivacious, and gracious. Displaying THAT kind of behavior is magnetically attractive. Someone who sees you and observed your graciousness and warmth of personality might then press through the crowd to just HAPPEN to meet you at the next booth you walk up to.
Labor Day Civic Celebrations: Often local area governments and businesses will host some kind of a Labor Day Civic Celebration. There will be speeches. These celebrations might feature some ribbon cutting. Additionally, local business unions and associations like your local chamber of commerce might be present and present some awards. What does that mean for you? Crowds. Typically such events will have some vendors present selling soda or pop as well as some food items. Congregate near those because lining up will offer you safe conversation excuse with the people in front of you and behind you. “Wasn’t Mayor Cynthia’s speech encouraging? I’m particularly pleased with her SBO policy. Have you tried the kielbasa? Is it good?” Low key. Positive. Lightly engaging.
