It’s Saturday which makes it the international mani/pedi day! Indeed, Friday after work hours and Saturday are the most popular times at nail salons for women to get their nails done. And even though it is winter time (ok, so it’s not officially Winter for another 3 days with the advent of the winter solstice, it sure feels like winter time already, doesn’t it?), and your toe nails may not be on display quite as often as they are with sandals and beach time during the Spring and Summer seasons, many women still make efforts to maintain a good and presentable pedicure during the Winter months.
With that then what about keeping your nails stylish as a single woman for the holiday season?
Some women are French manicure and pedicure diehards. Regardless of the time of year, they always sport the clenr and polished appearance of the French manicure. French manicures are seasonless. And they always make your hands and nails look polished and professional. A lot of actresses in dramatic television roles sport the French manicure because it does look polished, and it doesn’t detract from the drama of the television episode.
Some women really adore the Nude nail polish shades which have been popular for the past few fashion seasons. When you want to choose the best nude nail polish shade for you, your style, and complexion, check out this resource at the wonderful hair, beauty and style site: Hairboutique.com.
Then there are women like myself who pretty much always prefer COLOR on our nails. Sometimes in my professional life I will go with the French manicure, preferring a transparent slightly pinkish color on the body of the nail with white, not beige, tan, or a color on the whites of the nails. However, truly, most of the time, I adore to wear color on my nails.
In fact, I often joke about it that you can tell what season or holiday time it is by looking at the color of my nails. Spring time and I am sporting a PINK or a CORAL color. Typically, I keep with those same sort of shades during the Summer time as well, maybe adding a touch of a frost in the color to catch the Summer time glow of the season. Come Fall, typically the first manicure pedicure after Labor Day Weekend, and I segue over to the Autumnal colors of Merlot or Burgundy. I strive to find one with a touch of a gold frost. My complexion is a traditional “Spring” coloring and has a slightly golden tone to it, so I do better with a gold frost undertone while some other women look much better with either a white frost or a slightly blue tint to the frost or their color. Play with them and see what looks truly best on you!
Come December, at some point for the holiday season, I switch to a TRUE RED to honor the Christmas season. Style maven, Vassar alumna, Stacy London of TLC’s “What Not to Wear,” has dark tresses and fair skin, a dramatic combination that allows her to wear unusual colors like navy on her nails which she typically keeps short. For the holiday season, I like to add a touch of something sparkley like a Christmas ornament for my nails. I will add either a rhinestone embellishment to my nails or gold glitter nail polish in a reverse French manicure style.
What colors do you typically like to wear? Are you changing your nail color for the holiday season in some manner? If yes, from what to what colors and styles? Or are you a man putting the MAN in MANicure keeping your hands clean and well groomed this winter season?

December 20, 2010 at 12:59 PMI have to confess that I prefer not to see painted nails on a lady, but if that’s what you want to do, then matching the colours to the seasons seems like a good idea, provided those colours are right for you.

April 17, 2011 at 8:12 AMIt is really rare to come across a real professional like you are April. Seems to me a lot of the dating advice from the PUA guys are such jerks that I don’t want to be like them at all. Your writing and singles tips are such good quality that I will surely have some confidence in what you’re recommending. It’s really people like you April who’re really make a real difference in this world through the ideas they write about helping people meet their soul mate. A woman with well groomed nails just always looks so polished and refined.
