Life, Love, and Business Allow You Do Overs

Today’s Dating Tips blog post was going to share with you a super cool reality style video from the top of the Stratosphere Resort and Casino here in Las Vegas.  However, upon reflection, the 2 takes of the video just did NOT turn out well.  Not even reality style well.

Which leads to me point out, thank God, in life, love, and business, we are allowed do overs.

I think it was one of the concepts I first really grasped from the Home Schooling movement about learning.  The goal of education is not always about competition, what college we get into, and eliminating the competition.  Certainly that matters in Stanley Cup Hockey.  (As a regular reader of my blog, you were wondering when I would work that into my blog post again, yes? Go Sharks!)  However, in life, it is actually about the LEARNING.  You might have a non-supported by the traditional teaching methods of the public school system and still be an incredibly brilliant person.  The public school system rewards quiet sitter audio learners.  What if you are more of a kinesthetic learner who requires moving about and interacting with the medium?  Ehhhh!  (Annoying sound of buzzer) Too bad.  That does not compute well in many school systems.

We would sadly miss out on the wonderful gifts which you have to give and share if genuine education was not happening.

Dating, love, and relationships.  Well, sometimes we are just dreadful at them.  Maybe we just did not learn well the relationship cultivating skill sets when we grew up.  Relationship break ups.  Divorced.  Relationships ending.  Bad video clips.  Oh well my goodness, thank gawd, we still have the rest of our lives before us in which to learn a new relationship communication skill set.  While we still draw breath, it is not too late.

Some of the work I do as a trained certified Grief Recovery Specialist is to assist people in the communicating of their emotions and experiences around Grief.  That can be from a divorce, a break up, and yes, the death of a spouse.  You did not have the tools before.  Now you are seeking them out and learning them anew.  Good for you for doing so.  It takes time.  And are you worth it, yes?

There is no harm no foul.  It is not about failure.  Instead, I think of it as learning and having the opportunity still to learn now.  You can learn those skills now and apply them going forward.  It’s not too late.  It is like learning to walk at any age.

As for me and my reality style videos, well, I will do my make up and do some new takes tomorrow morning.  We won’t be at the top of the Stratosphere.  Those to whom my dating tips will be a blessing will still bless them.

Where in life do you need a do over?  You still draw breath, yes?  Good.  That means it is not too late.  Today now you can re start afresh.  Go ahead.  Give yourself the precious gift of affirming love and give yourself a do over.

Happy Dating and Relationships,

  1. What a refreshing post you today! Thank goodness for do-overs! My life would not be what it is today if do-overs weren’t possible!! That’s for sure!

  2. As my spiritual teachers say, pray that this realationship heals and if it doesn’t that something better will take it’s place. It is a breakup not a breakdown….well maybe not for the video…grrr!

    Blessings,

  3. April,

Great post! Life is about learning – and sometimes we forget that, no? So whether, it’s a do-over orrrrrrrrrrr several do-overs later… We just keep trying and learning and doing-over!

  4. Interesting concept but in my opinion, the “do-overs” may lead for people to get a divorce b/c “they want a do-over”.

  5. There are several do-overs I would like to request in the area of love in my life! Good to know that the dating expert believes do-overs are allowed! That’s good enough for me!

  6. Great point about dating love relations. We sure do need do over. April, this is a lot of useful information here. I’m sending it to some single friends!

  7. Who wouldn’t like some “do-over” credits, raise your hand? I didn’t think so.
    TAKE TWO!

  8. Do overs are a wonderful gift!! Thank you for reminding us! I find it one of the most beautiful things to read about in both the old the new testament of the Bible, that God also gives us do-overs!!

  9. April there are many areas of my life I would love to have a do over. Too many to name…but we can learn something I believe from all of them..even a messed up video. Sorry about your Sharks…they are a great team and hopefully helped get the Hawks ready for the finals! They will be there with the Hawks again next year as well.

  10. Hi MDW,

thanks for stopping by and commenting at my blog. That’s it exactly. The point of this post was precisely that. It’s not about failure and berating ourselves. The focus is with the learning and moving forward.

Your son is lucky to have such a great dad as you.

  11. Hi Bryan,

Thank you for stopping by and commenting at my blog, and reading my Stanley Cup for Singles series. I can see I will need to weave something in for the Memorial Day holiday.

Very much so. A great competition. I bear no grudges there. TRUST me. I’m from Jersey. Ergo NOT a Flyers fan (admire individual players like Pronger who is excellent.). GO HAWKS! I’d really like to see da Hawks lift The Cup this year.

  13. I am so happy you took the time and effort to make this idea of learning, failures, and do overs known. It just feels a lot better. See you around
