Singles Celebrate Boxing Day Online and Offline

Today, December 26th, is also known as “Boxing Day” and is celebrated in a number of English speaking countries, many of which have their roots in the UK’s colonizing days.  The exact derivation of the term, “Boxing Day,” has a number of different theories.  However, it is certainly tied to it being traditionally a holiday day giving the day off to servants to spend with their families (when they had been waiting attendance upon their employer families the Christmas Day prior), as well as servants and the poor being given special gifts and alms.

While the day also coincides with St. Stephen’s Day, a religious holiday, Boxing Day is itself a secular holiday.

In current times, Boxing Day has become a great day for shopping and taking advantage of the post-Christmas holiday sales.  While that often means braving the crowds at the shopping malls and major downtown shopping districts of such metro areas as Rodeo Drive and mid-town Manhattan, there is also the increased activity online.

What does this mean for singles?

Retail Malls – Meeting Offline

Singles can make use of the crowds and position themselves to meet and interact with retail shoppers at the malls and shopping districts.  One of the great ways to do this is to sip a coffee at the Starbucks across the street from the big department store, knowing that shoppers will want to take respite breaks during the day and regather their strength.

Internet Dating Sites – Meeting Online

While December typically shows the largest number of online dating site new member registrations, January also is an excellent time to join a site for the first time, or to try a new niche site.  Many singles have reflected upon their previous year, and weave in a New Years Resolution or New Years Goal of wanting to get married or to attract a life partner relationship and desire in January and February especially to take active steps to bring that about.  So you will see a new wave of online dating site members of people seriously looking for love online.

This week right after the Christmas holiday is a wonderful time both to get out and do a few concerted things to meet other new people in person either through shopping, Kwanzaa celebrations, or New Years Eve soirees, as well as to take some time to reflect inward, think about what you want in the next year, and to outline what that is, what your level of motivation and commitment to realizing that is, and outline your plan to attract, manifest, and realize those.
