Sparkle… Single Ladies, Don’t Leave Home Without It!
Ladies, tomorrow morning, before you leave the house, look in the mirror.
Sparkle in your eyes? Check.
Sparkle in your smile? Check.
Sparkle in your jewelry? NO? WHAT?
When you were 18 and naturally alluring, it was perhaps forgiveable to leave home without makeup, and without a thought to being “Put together”. Boomer Aged women over 40 and 50 know better. First of all, we have more respect for ourselves. It is soothing and fun to put on makeup, and romantic to put on jewelry and to present our “best selves” to the world every day. No matter what you are wearing, from jeans and a T-shirt to a ballgown, you can be more interesting and more ROMANTIC with a touch of glitter.
Try it every day for a week…see if it makes you FEEL a little happier and if it attracts a little more romance into your life.
With those jeans, a long pair of chandelier earrings will add a flair that makes YOU feel more cavalier and will catch the light by your face.Even a pair of round rhinestone studs will catch the sunlight as you hit the street. With any v-neck Tee, a rhinestone pendant adds interest, from a simple drop, to a circle of life, to something that is colorful and distinctive.
Those charming off the shoulder tops so popular right now, that show off the shoulders, are perfect with circular magnetic rhinestone sets, that come with matching earrings and bracelets. You could wear just the earrings to work with a blazer on the Tee, take off the blazer and add the necklace and bracelet and be ready for a night on the town. Even the most sedate suit and business attire can be redeemed from total boredom with a bit of glitz.
In the long ago seventies, many woman thought shiny bits of jewelry inappropriate for the workplace. I started to change my mind about this when I saw anchor women on the evening news wearing lovely antique brooches on their oh-so-business like suits. Even the most conservative of industries today allow for a little shine at the ears, or signature pin on a blazer.
And when you are really glamming it up… do go all the way and don’t just get a fabulous dress but get the jewelry that makes the outfit. Where can you find all this sparkle? Start by checking your mother, your grandmother, and your aunts jewelry boxes. They may have wonderful old costume pieces that they no longer wear and would be happy to pass on to you.
The next place to look is antique shops or consignment shops. The prices are still below new or fine jewelry at “the Mall” and you are most likely getting “one of a kind pieces”. You will also find fun pieces of both the antique kind and the vintage inspired look on Ebay and at other sites on the Internet. With the price of rhinestones so reasonable today, there is no reason not to have a set to match every outfit as well as your eyes!
And it is fun to do a little research on rhinestones, and be able to say things, like, “Did you know they are called rhinestones because the first ones were found in the Rhine river?” Judith Miller has written some books on Costume Jewelry that are fabulously illustrated and will have you oohing and aahing over the pictures.
Why does jewelry enhance romance? Well, you DO sparkle when you wear it. It attracts light to you. When you move, you glitter and glow. You also attract comments…when people want to approach you, you have now given them a topic..”What a lovely necklace! Where did you get it?” and on to deeper subjects …”It matches your eyes” ..ooh.. now they are flirting with you…and you gave them the opening, just by remembering to add the sparkle before you sashayed out the door. You did sashay, didn’t you?
