Stanley Cup for Singles – Continued Dating Strategy to Leverage Your Game Time Whatever the Sport

As a dedicated San Jose Sharks fan, my family is delighted to find that the San Jose Sharks have just won the first three games of the Western Division Conference Semi-Finals.  We are not the only ones who love our team and yet find ourselves a little dismayed.  Happily dismayed, but dismayed.  San Jose Mercury News sports columnist, Mark Purdy wrote, “The Sharks won again Tuesday and are in position to sweep (good gravy, did I just type those words?) because they have owned the third period against Detroit.”  I love my team, but the 3rd period has not historically been their strong point.  Well, with the possibility of a Sweep in 4 games against the great team, the Detroit Red Wings, in Hockeytown, we are all racing to decide precisely where we want to watch this potentially historic game.

So, during our Stanley Cup for Singles series of dating tip posts to give singles some creative ideas for where to watch.  Game 4 for the Sharks v. Red Wings game will be 7:30 pm Eastern time, 4:30 pm Pacific.  Yes, if you’re in the Pacific Time zone, plan now to exit work early somehow.    For the Wings fans (great team, I truly admire them and have cheered them to their Stanley Cup wins, but guys, my team is playing you, so you know who I’m rooting for, right?), this will be dinner time.

Find a Fun Restaurant

So what kind of food do you want to eat to watch this historic game?  Well, we don’t always want to eat Sports Bar fare while watching a game.  Time to get resourceful.  What restaurants do you know who also have a bar section with a wide screen tv?  Steak? Seafood?  Sushi?  Parker’s Lighthouse Restaurant in Long Beach fits the bill and they’ll gladly devote one of their multiple large screen tvs to a hockey game in the bar area.  If Chinese food or Italian food is more what you’re craving, check out the restaurants where you live to see who has 1 or 2 large screen tvs in the Bar/Counter Area.  Now the cool thing about eating in the Counter/Bar area is that it is entirely set up to chat with the other people who are there.  Even if the others weren’t originally interested in the hockey game, your enthusiasm can arouse their curiosity to engage you in light conversation.  The wait staff and restaurant owners will all be amused and intrigued that you selected their restaurant to watch a cool sports game.  Tip them well because you’ll be ensconced there for about 3 hours, longer if there is overtime.  Enjoy your steamed dumplings and Moo Shu Pork.  Sip some hot saki.  Enjoy the game and chat up the people around you.  You never know where this could lead!

  1. They shouldn’t be allowed to play hockey in California. Only in places where it snows at least once a year. But best of luck to the San Jose Sharks anyway…

  2. Congrats on the Sharks doing well! Being from Colorado, it was Avalanche all the way… =-(

It seems like a lot of restaurants have some sort of bar these days, so you should be able to eat almost anywhere. This late in the season, is it more disruptive to talk up a hard-core fan, or can you still safely engage in conversation?

  3. Sounds like a lot of fun! I always love the big concluding games!!! Enjoy yourselves and may the best team win!

  4. good suggestion for the venue.

    I have never been there.

The Yardhouse is always freindly and has a great selelction of food, wine, beer and liquor.

How would you go about approaching a big group mf men where you saw the interest of one?

  7. Really enjoying your Stanley Cup themed dating tips.

At the risk of drawing your wrath, I am rooting for the Red Wings since I lived in Detroit for several years. I would root for my home team, the Minnesota Wild but they somehow managed to avoid the playoffs. 🙂

  8. I was just wondering with all the sports bars and restaurants that you suggest going to after the Championships are over do you start recommending Gyms I know I would need one after all the fun and food.

  9. I feel so left out, I’m just not a sports guy. After I moved to Europe for a few years I came home durring football season and I felt like I had been living on Mars for a couple of decades. Tennessee Titans? Where did they come from (I guess Tennesee)? There are still 50 States right?
I do enjoy watching sports with other people though and have even been to a few hocky games.

  10. How do you have time to watch the game? I’ve been out of my mind busy the last 6 weeks. I’m so busy, I don’t even have time to change my mind. I’m so busy I don’t know if I found a rope or lost my horse. I’m so busy, I don’t know if I should wind my butt, or scratch my watch. I’m busier than a one-armed paper-hanger. I’m busier than a one legged man at a butt kickin contest.

  11. Any sport that also has food is a good sport as far as I am concerned. You can ALWAYS comment on the food! Always some guys hanging out near the food!

  12. Just like in business and dating, people know how to close the deal. The Sharks lost 7-1 to Detroit. Sharks are up 3-1 but the Wings have some life now.
