Single Over Thanksgiving? Look to Attend an Alumni Athletics Game in Your Home Town
If your high school is anything like my prep school, and I’ll bet it is, take a look at the athletic options to see if there is any kind of alumni games being offered over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Perhaps there is a field hockey game, a soccer game, a football game, or even just something goofy fun like a coed flag football game. Even if you are not massively athletically inclined, you might look to participate for 1 period or even just to cheer the game on from the sidelines along with your friends.
I don’t even have the statistics for the number of marriages which have resulted from singles meeting at Reunions. Well, not every reunion opportunity need be officially over Reunion weekend in the late Spring time months of May and June. Take this same dating success principle and twist it slightly to see what other events or occasions which present themselves at other times of year in your life are similar in some way to Reunion days or weekends. What are some other social options that are similar to Reunions? Other Alumni events featured at other times of the year!
Poke around. If your high school doesn’t offer something like an athletic game over Thanksgiving weekend, one of the other schools in your town or county just might. And don’t tell me you didn’t have friends at most of the other schools in your area, right? Additionally, for singles over the age of 50, 55, and 60 years old, yeah know, it doesn’t really even matter if you didn’t go to the school. If you grew up in that area, go to the games or events and just cheer them on. Anyone who is around your age will just be delighted to reminisce about your era and the town where you grew up.
For all the rest of us in our 30s and 40s, you should be able to connect with either alumni of your school or a buddy from one of the other schools in order to have your entre for attending the game. Keep your eyes peeled, converse with a variety of people, and see if you hear about any post-game social gatherings. Sometimes they will be at someone’s house. Alternatively, everyone might be meeting up at a favorite burger place and watering hole. Do go!

November 9, 2011 at 11:47 AMNot sure that the high schools in my area do this type of thing but I can think of a number of romances that began or were rekindled at a class reunion.
Great advice!

We don’t have Thanksgiving in Spain but other celebrations. What is very easy is to find parties for ex-alumni! I think it is a great place to meet with new people!
