LBFD Annual Holiday Food Drive Starts Nov 1

Whatever your location, be inspired by the Long Beach Fire Department.  If you live in the area of Southern Los Angeles county or even the Northern most section of Orange County, CA, then just look in your wallet.  If there is more than $20.00 cash then you are doing well this season, and certainly better than many others in the United States this Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season 2011.  Now if you live elsewhere in the States or in another country, poke around in your local area to see who is sponsoring a local Food Drive and bless them locally with your participation.

Easy Tactics to Add Some Food Donations to Your Grocery Shopping:

An easy way to give just a little something is to add a few more cans of food to your next food shopping excursion.  For the food drive, the Long Beach Fire Department is requesting donations of dry good or canned foods.

Special Food Donation Requests from LBFD Food Drive:

As part of the current special holiday food drive, there is a special request for pet food donations.  Yes, many of the people and families who have lost their jobs and who have been affected by the economic downturn have pet cats and dogs.  It’s certainly not the pet animals fault and you don’t want them all donated to the local shelters where they’d risk being put down.  As any pet owner knows, our beloved pets help to lift our spirits and encourage us when things are a bit difficult.

When and Where to Donate Your Food to the LBFD Food Drive:

Large cardboard boxes will be placed at the entry areas of Long Beach Fire houses for both the general public and LB Firefighters to place their food donations into.  The Food Drive donations can be made at the local area fire stations M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm during their regular business hours 7 days a week.  For a list of Long Beach Fire Department locations:  LBFD Locations

The Long Beach Fire Department’s annual food drive benefits local Long Beach, CA food charity, Food Finders.  Food finders distributes the food to over 100 Long Beach organizations.

Sometimes singles can get into a singles mind frenzy of overly focusing on wanting to find a life partner our spouse, almost to the exclusion of seeing others of different ages and from being involved in their community.  In the reality of marriage relationships over the course of a lifetime, we actually need lots of other people of many different ages.  Some will be surrogate fill-in moms and dads when we might live many miles away from our own or after they have passed on.  Start practicing that community gratitude and involvement now.  The habit and the spirit of the work will stand you in good stead for years to come.  Practice the law of sowing and reaping now.

Some creative ways to gather food for the LBFD food drive:

You might be a member of a singles social group or casual sport league.  For your next few events, encourage members to bring a bag of canned and dried goods to donate.  Have bags and cartons available.  A fun way to know what you’re giving is to weigh the food.  Then you can announce in your church or temple bulletin, or singles or social group’s newsletter announce how many pounds of food your group donated locally, representing your association or faith community well to the larger public community.  It’s as simple as that and oh so easy to do.

  1. I used to attend some events where the cover charge was reduced if you brought some food for the local food pantry. Since I think this increased attendance, it was a win/win/win.

  2. Finding singles groups near Long Beach for a food drive is a great way to participate in a worthwhile activity.

  3. What a worthy cause. I am sure most all communities will have something similar this holiday season either through local churches or Fire/Police Departments.

Thank you for bringing this up.
