Local Orange County Club OC Wine Elite Tastes Wines in Newport Beach
If you missed out on the wine clubs that abound at the top business schools, you can still find some great wine clubs open to the general public, no GMAT score and graduate business school essay and admission required. However, that doesn’t mean that participating in these wine clubs is exactly cheap. It’ll cost you more than the price of paying for a flight of wine. However, this is certainly still much less expensive than actually purchasing any of the individual wines by the bottle.
Wherever you live, take a look around on Facebook, Meetup, and your local city’s events pages for a cool wine club in your area. In the San Francisco Bay area, in San Francisco we used to have the marvelous gem for wonderful wine, Sonoma Napa and Beyond, which I heard recently it closed. Perhaps someone will reopen it soon.
In Orange County, as recently featured in an “Orange Coast” review. “Justin Rhodes,” the founder of the club, is training to be a sommelier. The club features, in particular, blind taste tests of wines. Yes, being a long time Californian, it’s true. We tend towards preferring our native vine wines from Napa and Sonoma Valleys. However, I have tried and, of course, absolutely enjoyed fine wines while in Paris, another area of fantastic wine, where they certainly have the right to claim wine snobbery.
Do check out the wonderful tasting events of the OC Wine Elite. The tastings seem to run just about weekly, each with a different theme. The restaurant venues varying between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach in The OC. While I personally love Cabs, I did just miss the Cabernet Sauvignon event last week. This weekend’s forthcoming tasting dinner option on Saturday, October 1st is focused on “Oaky” red wines and will be held at Palm Terrace Restaurant (690 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach, CA).
First of all, who of us couldn’t use learning a little bit more about wine? Me? I just leave it to my cousin who is the family wine snob and is quite knowledgeable. This is one of those social events that I recommend to singles to attend to stretch themselves socially. Will a number of the people in attendance be single? Probably, while not all, of course. So you don’t get that meat market feel to the event. And that way, you can just comfortably, calmly, and casually socialize with others and move from there at your own individual pace. And if you’re not interested in anything on the dating front, you can just comfortably and casually enjoy the fine wine, fabulous food, and easy social conversation with the others who Rhodes gathered to the event.
Yes, this is just the kind of event where you will see me at personally. I’m just not sure which one I’ll be attending yet…. Cheers!

September 29, 2011 at 2:27 PMI waited tables for years where I was trained to drink. Wine. I too enjoy a cab but a Meritage would be my favorite which is a blend of usually 4 grapes. Meritage is the American substitute word for Bordeaux. Although my favorite of all time is an Italian Amarone.

September 30, 2011 at 2:22 AMI am not a big wine drinker but I think that is mostly because I don’t know anything about it and how to pair wine with foods. I do enjoy going to wine tasting parties where they educated on the wine.
sounds like a great event

September 30, 2011 at 11:26 AMLooks like a great event with some classy wine to taste. Also, a more relaxed environment for some single person looking to avoid the club or meat market scene in OC and LA area.
