SF Singles: Attend the SFYR San Francisco Young Republicans Happy Hour in Cow Hollow

When I lived in San Francisco and was in my Single Again time after becoming widowed, one of my favorite monthly activities to put into my social calendar was to attend the SFYR Monthy Happy Hour.  I know to many San Francisco singles you’re liberal and even to attend a mixer of another political party would seem anathema to you.  Just, keep a little bit of an open mind.  The guest speaker at the monthly mixer varies, and typically the group of attendees is small enough that you really do have an opportunity to meet many of them.  It draws crowds anywhere from 10 – 60 people depending on their event and guest presenter.

Naturally, being a complex San Franciscan, my political views are a unique combination of some conservative and some liberal views.  In general, I prefer the government to be hands-off.  I prefer liberty (my freedom to take responsibility for my life and resources.).  Showing my Colonial Era Revolutionary War town upbringing.  I think it was in the water.

And I am extrovert, so if you’re feeling shy about going, that’s why I’m sharing a bit of my story on this.  I literally lived just down the road from where the Happy Hour is held.  But I felt, yes me, trepidatious about going alone and perhaps not knowing anyone.  I think more single women feel this way.  And there is always a bit of the “The Beautiful People” pressure in Cow Hollow, Pacific Height, and The Marina Districts.  In Southern California, Los Angeles and Orange County both have that overshadow as well.  “Am I perfect enough looking that I’ll fit in and won’t be snubbed by others?” That kind of worry and concern.  Well, after losing my husband and emerging from the grief, quite often I would just sort of gut it and go to places and crowds where I didn’t already know people.  Because I knew who was and who I was not.

For example, if you’re interested in a Tall Willowy Red Head, and that is just really your type.  Well, bless your heart, that’s fine with me.  Notice, it’s not a rejection of ME.  It’s a seeking something totally else.  Well me?  I’m short, curvy and blonde.  I will never by any stretch of the imagination or changing my hair color this season become 5 inches taller with a completely different figure.  Ain’t going to happen.  And plenty of guys really DO LIKE the short, curvy, and blonde package.  So, we’re good.  It’s just, I know who I am.  I know what I’m not.

How about you?

So,   I want to suggest if you are remotely conservative or have ever cast your vote, poked your Chad, for a Republican, then go to the SFYR June Happy Hour.  Not everyone who goes is in the YR charter age group required to be an officer (cut off is 40 years old as I recall).  You’ll immediately have a group of people (some of whom will be single so you get to practice a little flirting!) and you immediately will have a conversation starter topic for safely and easily opening conversations with anyone there.

  1. More good advice April . Great reading for someone in this particular situation in San Francisco.

  2. Cow Hollow??? I guess if you live there you know what it means!!! In the Midwest, it sort of suggests there might be some dosey doing!!!But I am glad you are suggesting a variety of things for singles to do because I think that if there is one STEREOTYPE about being single it is that there are a limited number of ways to meet other singles. and if there is one thing that you clearly bring to the table it is that there are an INFINITE number of ways to meet others. In the last week, I have met interesting people while on a plane, in the grocery store, while renting an apartment, while standing on a street corner looking befuddled reading a map, taking a tour, in a restaurant, etc…and all of this happened in a foreign country where my language skills were spotty!!! But thanks to YOU I always keep an open mind and a smile on my face!!

  3. This is a great idea April. The education as well as the social benefits can help singles in San Francisco meet a soul mate. Happy hour is always great dating advice and the atmosphere of San Francisco will help those meet like minded individuals.
