Single Baby Boomer Dating Expert Wishing You a Happy 4th of July from Orange County

by April Braswell on July 4, 2009

As a Baby Boomer generation Dating Expert (Women’s World Weekly just interviewed me to help more single women, and most of their readers are in the GenX and Baby Boomer generations), I just want to wish you all a very Happy 4th of July.

I’m here in Orange County 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean with most of my family.  We will be enjoying grilled meat and grilled veggies by the pool this afternoon.

And what about you?  Certainly a number of my readers live outside of The States.  Thank you for bearing with us this weekend as we fete ourselves.  Happy Canada to my readers up North.

The plan is to walk the mile to the beach along the Pacific Coast Highway and watch the fireworks from the pier AND get in some great exercise.

I’ll see if my camcorder can capture any of it well to share the views with you all later once we get home.

To my readers in The UK, after 233 years, all is forgiven.  The United States and Great Britain have traditionally enjoyed being wonderful allies for over 100 years.  May that continue.  Of course, you have given us some of the best literature we have to read to-date.  And to our wonderful French allies who helped us 233 years ago, bless you.  From you we have great wines, great cheese, great art, and panache.

On the dating front, I was just coaching a client on a late night phone call last night asking for advice before heading out to social parties this weekend.  Certainly, when you are in your 20s and even early 30s, there are a lot of parties to choose from.  Quite often you are in a college or graduate program and have lots of peers all about you.

When you are of the GenX and Baby Boom generation and you’re single, you often have to make a greater concerted effort.  Frankly, tonight, the fireworks, unless you have a party to go to, that kind of an event is challenging to MEET and MINGLE with strangers.  Start making plans for next weekend.

I also hear of folks say, “Oh, I’m not a host or hostess sort of person….”  Did that stop you in your twenties?  Remember when a baseball game and a 6 pack was enough to invite friends over?  Just be informal and make some phone calls.  Break out your Evite invitations and get a gaggle of friends over.   Ask each to bring a NEW person to the party.

Start some fireworks of your own…..

Happy Dating and Relationships,

Oooh A party!!

A baseball game and a six pack sounds like a great party to me.

Maybe we’ll mix it up with some Gin and Fanta too!

Happy Fourth of July! Have a great time. I know you will!

Hey JJ,

you are a riot. Thank you for the well-wishes. Indeed, it WAS fun. We had a good time. Next time, more sunscreen for my legs! I can’t BELIEVE I neglected them. I’m just so used to their not being an issue whatsoever.

Fanta and Gin. You crack me up. Ya know, women find men with a sense of humor about life ATTRACTIVE not so much for the toe-curling initial attraction like, “ooo, Brad Pitt, he’s so hot.” but for MARRIAGE and the companionship of LIFE for the loooooooooong haul.

The worst… to be boring! aiyee! could you imagine? Well, all I can say, JJ, something I suspect, you, I, Mrs. Jalopy and my next husband will NEVER have to fear! lol!

Happy relationships, sir!

April,

> Women’s World Weekly just interviewed me

Congrats!

> Next time, more sunscreen for my legs! I can’t BELIEVE I neglected them

No! Most sunscreen has harmful chemicals. Plus a HUMAN body needs DIRECT sunlight exposure for the body to make Vitamin D to make sure bones are strong and Vit D is alos anti-cancer!

Our next gerneration is having Vitamin D deficiency due to lack of DIRECT sunlight exposure + those sun screen blocking the sunlight!

Grilled meat and veggies followed by a mile walk to the beach — wow! We’re going to have to add “fitness maven” to your title! Hope you had a great 4th.

I’d still enjoy going over to someone’s house and watching the game with a group of people a six pack and a bag of chips – and I don’t even like sports. As a matter of fact, I don’t even drink beer. But, I know I’d have a heck of a time at the party!
